Inside the Internship: Meet Michael Kirtley of UNT

Michael Kirtley is spending his summer gaining hands-on experience with DOCUmation’s sales team in Dallas-Fort Worth. A senior at the University of North Texas, Michael is majoring in professional sales and is eager to build a strong foundation of sales skills that will prepare him for a career in tech sales. Originally drawn to DOCUmation after hearing from Executive Vice President Zack Mahan during a class visit, Michael was inspired by the company’s culture, hands-on approach, and focus on professional growth.

Why He Chose DOCUmation

Michael wanted more than a traditional internship—he was looking for real-world experience that would challenge him and allow him to grow. When Zack Mahan spoke to his sales class, the company’s tech-driven focus and opportunities for professional development caught his attention.

“What stood out to me here at DOCUmation is the hands-on experience we get. You’re not just an order taker—you’re actually going into the field and speaking with clients,” he shared.

A Win Worth Celebrating

One of Michael’s proudest moments so far has been leading two client appointments entirely on his own. This milestone gave him confidence in his sales abilities and confirmed that his efforts are paying off.

What Motivates Michael

Curiosity fuels Michael’s drive to succeed.

“Curiosity is what motivates me the most here,” he said.

He thrives on learning new skills and approaches, always looking for ways to improve. Michael values the opportunity to work alongside professionals who have built their careers through decades of dedication and hard work. Their depth of experience and willingness to share what they’ve learned provides him with practical insights that go beyond the classroom. He views every client interaction and team conversation as a chance to grow, learn from proven success, and better understand the dynamics of tech sales.

Outside the Office

When he’s not working or studying, Michael enjoys teaching dance, playing pickleball, and spending time with his wife—activities that reflect his energy, creativity, and team-oriented mindset. Looking ahead, he plans to carry the curiosity, confidence, and hands-on skills he’s building at DOCUmation into a career in tech sales, where continual learning and building authentic connections will remain at the core of his success.
