About DOCUmation

We continue what Lou Scantland, founder and grandfather, started 30 years ago. Scantland joined the copy business in 1958 during the turmoil of a recession and successfully developed one of the nation’s first copier dealerships with a cost-per-copy model. From Detroit to Arizona, Scantland’s industry journey eventually led to his family planting roots in Texas and founding DOCUmation. Now headquartered in San Antonio, TX, and quarterbacked by brothers (and co-presidents) Preston and Hunter Woolfolk, our company has been serving customers for more than 30 years as a managed service provider. DOCUmation has served customers through supplying copiers, managed print and IT to production print/wide-format, unified communications and various other software and technology solutions.

DOCUmation aims to help any business become more efficient and streamlined through the implementation of technology designed to fit their individual needs. Our success has led us to become the largest privately-held technology provider in Texas, but still your shop-around-the-corner who retains that family owned touch and culture. We’re built and raised in Texas, and that comes with the values we stand by and the guarantee behind a true Texan handshake.

Servant Leadership has been ingrained in the roots of our family owned and operated business for three generations. Our family’s business has operated with a steadfast commitment to serving with integrity and embodying good old-fashioned Texas values. These values help us maintain a successful family and corporate culture. Core values of character, inspired attitude, innovation, exceptional service, professionalism, high quality, and community have been inherited through generations and remain pillars of our success.

What is Servant Leadership?

Servant Leadership is a management style that promotes and fosters a successful business.
This leadership strategy prioritizes empathy and emotional intelligence coupled with a mindset of putting others first. A servant leader has the emotional intelligence to discern the importance the culture of a company has on its functionality and quality. Our founder understood that nothing is more important than family, and his grandchildren continue to lead using this mindset.

“We’re a part of this business, but we are not everything. That is what makes a great company. The culture is built by the individuals and they make up the team, it is not necessarily one single person who is driving that culture. The company is an extension of our family,” Preston Woolfolk, Co-President, stated.

We are in the business of service, and that dedication to our team and community begins with our leadership. Robby Brown, Vice President of San Antonio, shares how servant leadership and an others focused mindset shows how our core values of character, customer, and community power our team. “As Vice President, I would define success as the care I am able to provide for my team.” DOCUmation is just as much a people business as it is a technology business.

This mindset that stems from servant leadership has been key to DOCUmation’s growth and success. “I aspire to be a servant leader, I mean there’s no other way around it. Whether it’s my sales team, or admin, I love to see their kids grow up and get to go to college and better their lives. It’s about just being there for them.” Zack Mahan, Vice President of DFW shared. A servant leader takes pride in the improvements and successes of their team. They are there to support employees at the office or celebrate the accomplishments they achieve in their personal lives.

What are the benefits of servant leadership in business?

Servant Leadership benefits business by creating a healthy work environment that encourages collaboration through idea sharing, employee engagement, and building strong relationships. This type of environment creates a business with high retention, therefore sustainability, and offers professional and personal development. In business, Servant Leadership reflects the influence and implementation of our company’s core values. DOCUmation is officially named one of the “Best Companies to Work for in Texas” by the Texas Association of Business. Under the influence of Servant Leadership, DOCUmation provides a corporate environment that is one of the best places to work.

Servant leadership prioritizes the needs of employees to create an environment ripe for continuous flow of fresh ideas and innovation that drive business growth. A good business is always pursuing internal growth, as well as finding new and improved ways to cater to and serve its clients. Additionally, Servant Leadership boosts employee retention, ensuring the organization’s sustainability as satisfied employees are more likely to remain committed to the company and build its culture. Employee engagement and morale are naturally enhanced as leaders actively listen, support, and invest in their teams’ well-being. Prioritizing the growth of team members builds strong, trust-based relationships and a sense of unity. Additionally, professional development within a business not only enhances individual skills but also strengthens the entire workforce.

Service that Serves

Our products are the physical aspects of what DOCUmation provides, including smartboards, hardware, printers, MFPs, and more. DOCUmation is a managed service provider. This type of company helps other businesses with their computer and technology needs. We take care of things like fixing computer problems, keeping software updated, and making sure everything runs smoothly so the business can focus on its work without worrying about tech issues. The “heart” of our business is what sets us apart. This is the intangibles that involve maintenance, upkeep, or assistance that keep a product running and healthy. We believe in ‘Service that Serves,’ and a mutual commitment between employer and employee that makes work fun and offers opportunities for us to serve. All aspects of our business flourish as a result of Servant Leadership.

A Servant Leader aims to support the growth and well-being of their employees and business. An environment that allows people to align their professional and personal objectives will help our company thrive and achieve organizational goals and serve our customers with excellence. We believe that happy employees lead to happy customers; that’s why we strive to provide purposeful opportunities and a supportive atmosphere where our teammates can thrive.

What The Future Looks like for DOCUmation

“I do my best to make our grandfather proud of the legacy he has begun,” noted Hunter Woolfolk, Co-President. The family-owned technology solutions company will continue to provide IT, print, and software-managed services and customized solutions to help fellow Texans reach their business goals.

DOCUmation is fresh off a 2022 campaign that saw it reap 30% year-over-year growth. More impressively, if the first quarter of 2023 is any indication, DOCUmation will post an even higher growth rate when all the receipts have been counted at year’s end. “That 30% growth represented the biggest in company history,” Hunter noted. “Administratively and operationally, we’re making sure we can keep up with this growth internally to support the entirety of the company.”

As the largest privately owned dealership in the state of Texas, DOCUmation is responsible for over 100 employees and their families, as well as many clients and long time partnerships. “We feel blessed to have had these opportunities at such a young age. We carry a strong burden of being purpose-driven, to bless these families and our communities. We’ve been able to grow together. It creates a culture that’s mission-focused, and there’s a bigger picture than just doing our jobs and getting paid,” Hunter said.

At DOCUmation, success is not solely based on revenue and numbers, but also on community impact and our commitment to service. We ensure our commitment to community impact and volunteering opportunities and initiatives. As a family-owned, privately held company, DOCUmation offers rare employee advantages like career progression, competitive pay, and mutual investment. The company has grown across the board, reeling in down-the-street business, mid-markets and major accounts. Having critical subject-matter experts in the fields of production print and facilities management has led to high growth and a successful future in those disciplines. As a MSP, DOCUmation has adapted to the challenges of the business world; keeping up with changes in the industry by becoming a company known as a technology solutions provider as well as a print and copier shop.
